President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the recent killings in Plateau and Kaduna states, describing the attacks as “barbaric and cowardly,” and has directed security agencies to bring those responsible to justice.
Gunmen reportedly killed about 28 people in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, Plateau State, while another attack in Kahir village, Kaduna State, left several dead, including victims targeted during a wedding gathering.
In a statement issued by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the President described the violence and abductions as a serious affront to national values. He ordered security operatives to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and clamp down on misinformation that could escalate tensions.
Tinubu also emphasized the need for public cooperation with security directives, including evacuation and relocation measures where necessary. He urged security agencies to act more proactively on intelligence and ensure the immediate rescue of remaining abductees.
The President commended Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for their response efforts, assuring both states of federal support.
Meanwhile, Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed that Plateau State will remain resolute, stating that the people will not give in to fear despite the attacks.
The incidents have drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who have urged authorities to take decisive action beyond statements.
