Former Imo State Deputy Governor, Eze Madumere, has officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), days after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Madumere made the announcement on Wednesday at his residence in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, stating that his decision followed extensive consultations with family, political allies, and supporters.
He explained that his exit from the APC was driven by what he described as the party’s failure to uphold its core values, adding that it no longer rewards loyalty and has deviated from its founding ideals.
“For the records, my departure from the APC is not borne out of malice, but of necessity,” he said, stressing that he could no longer remain in a system that marginalises committed members.
The former deputy governor, who served between 2013 and 2019, expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunity to serve but insisted that it was time to move on in pursuit of better governance.
Explaining his move to the PDP, Madumere said the party’s philosophy and direction align with his political aspirations, particularly in the areas of good governance, unity, and effective service delivery. He described the PDP as a platform offering hope, renewal, and credible leadership.
He reassured his supporters of his continued commitment to public service, noting that his decision was driven not by personal ambition but by the desire to achieve better outcomes for the people.
Madumere added that he would collaborate with like-minded individuals within the PDP to promote democratic values, youth empowerment, and transparent governance.
