President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned visit to Ogun State and will instead travel to Plateau State to commiserate with victims of the recent deadly attacks in Jos.
The decision follows fresh violence in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where nearly 30 people were killed and several others injured.
Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, disclosed after meeting with the President in Abuja that Tinubu was deeply moved by the incident and considering a personal visit. The Presidency later confirmed that the trip to Plateau would mark the beginning of the President’s four-state itinerary.
According to a statement by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will first visit Jos to sympathize with victims and assess the situation following the “barbaric” attacks.
Governor Mutfwang, however, assured that calm has been restored in the affected areas. He revealed that a curfew had been imposed and partially relaxed, while security forces have successfully contained attempts by looters to exploit the situation.
Describing the killings as acts of terrorism, the governor said investigations are ongoing to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
