The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has intercepted 47 Nigerians at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, preventing their illegal transfer to Cairo, Egypt. The operation, conducted on Wednesday around 13:10 hours, was a coordinated effort involving the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
According to NAPTIP, the victims—46 females and 1 male aged 19 and above—were allegedly lured with false promises of employment as house helps, factory workers, and sales representatives in Egypt. Intelligence indicates that these offers were part of a known trafficking pattern used by criminal networks to exploit unsuspecting Nigerians abroad.
The rescued individuals have been placed in protective custody for profiling and support, while investigations continue to identify and prosecute the trafficking syndicate responsible.
NAPTIP commended the collaborative efforts of FAAN and NIS and urged the public to remain vigilant against suspicious travel arrangements and unverified overseas job offers.
