The Federal Government has officially launched the Generation Unlimited (GenU 9JA) National Secretariat under the Office of the Vice President, in a major step toward prioritizing youth development in Nigeria’s economic agenda.
The initiative, unveiled on March 31, 2026, signals a shift toward stronger government leadership in empowering young people. UNICEF Nigeria, a key partner, described the move as a “transformative milestone” for millions of youths seeking education, skills, and economic opportunities.
Since its introduction in 2021, GenU 9JA has reached over 11 million young Nigerians across all 36 states and the FCT, offering access to digital skills, job opportunities, and civic participation—especially targeting young women and underserved communities.
With the creation of the National Secretariat, the programme is now set to achieve its goal of impacting 20 million youths by 2030.
Jointly led by the Office of the Vice President and UNICEF, the Secretariat will serve as a high-level coordination hub. Its focus includes strengthening collaboration between ministries and the private sector, boosting investment in youth entrepreneurship and digital inclusion, and creating clear pathways from education to employment.
UNICEF Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to providing technical support to scale these efforts and ensure meaningful outcomes for young Nigerians.
The Secretariat is also expected to unite development partners and youth leaders, driving national growth through data-driven strategies and digital innovation.
