The National Leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Seriake Dickson, on Friday welcomed a wave of defectors from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party (LP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The group, led by Amanda Pam, was formally received during a press conference at Dickson’s residence in Abuja. Pam, a former National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ex-Mandate Secretary for Health in the Federal Capital Territory under Muhammadu Buhari, arrived alongside several party executives and supporters.
Among the defectors were key figures including Omale Sule, Princess Gladys Ngozi, Godwin Onoya, Yusuf Adam, Aliyu Umar, Nurudeen Bissallah, and Faruk Datsama, reflecting a significant political shift within the Federal Capital Territory.
Dickson described the development as a major gain for the NDC, noting that the party’s influence continues to expand nationwide. He welcomed the new members and officially presented them with membership cards.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Pam said their decision was driven by the need to align with a credible opposition platform.
“We are here to support a party with clear ideology and strong leadership,” she said, adding that over 1,000 executives and supporters had joined the NDC in the FCT.
Bissallah, who was named deputy state chairman of the NDC, confirmed that the SDP structure in the FCT had been fully integrated into the party. Meanwhile, Datsama cited internal crises within the Labour Party as a key reason for his defection.
The development comes amid ongoing turmoil within the ADC, including leadership disputes linked to David Mark and internal controversies in the FCT chapter.
As political realignments continue, the NDC appears to be strengthening its presence, particularly in Abuja and other parts of the country.
