The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has officially welcomed Prof. Shehu Abdulrahman as the new Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, marking a key step in resolving a long-standing staff dispute.
The ceremonial event, held on March 30, 2026, at the hospital premises, brought together hospital staff, stakeholders from across Kogi State, and NARD leadership. During the event, the association presented a congratulatory banner to the new CMD, while NARD President Dr. Mohammad Usman Suleiman conveyed best wishes for a successful tenure.
One of Prof. Abdulrahman’s first actions as CMD was approving the reinstatement of the remaining two staff members in the so-called FTH Lokoja 5+2, completing the full reinstatement process. Administrative steps for issuing formal reinstatement letters are ongoing, and salaries and arrears for previously reinstated staff have begun to be paid.
NARD described the resolution as a critical step forward and a reflection of its commitment to defending the welfare of members. In recognition of collective efforts, the Congress of ARD FTH Lokoja honoured NARD leaders with awards of appreciation, presented by Prof. Abdulrahman and past NMA President Prof. Mike Ogirima.
The association reaffirmed its dedication to working with hospital management to foster a harmonious environment and improve welfare and remuneration. NARD also thanked key stakeholders, including the Coordinating Minister for Health, Prof. Mohammad Ali Pate, Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Kunle Salako, and NMA President Prof. Bala M. Audu, for their role in securing the resolution.
