Residents in parts of Lagos were thrown into panic early Saturday morning after a fire broke out at a market in the Yaba area.
The blaze, which reportedly began around 1 a.m., affected multiple shops, with eyewitnesses claiming that a large quantity of goods was destroyed.
Videos circulating on social media showed thick smoke and intense flames consuming sections of the market, as traders and residents rushed to rescue their belongings.
An eyewitness, identified as Lugar Feliz during a TikTok livestream, confirmed that firefighters had arrived at the scene. He added that the fire started around the Popo area of the Yaba market.
As of the time of this report, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has yet to release an official statement regarding the extent of the damage or any casualties.
Efforts to contain the fire were still ongoing, as residents called for better emergency response measures to prevent further losses.
