The Lagos State Government has evacuated more than 230 students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) following escalating insecurity in Plateau State, which led to the closure of the university and suspension of academic activities.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, through the Ministry of Tertiary Education, deployed a convoy of buses with security escorts to ensure the safe return of affected students to Lagos. Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, emphasized that the move was crucial to safeguard Lagos indigenes studying outside the state.
All students were debriefed, checked for wellness, and reunited with their families upon arrival. The government thanked security agencies and the Plateau State authorities for their cooperation and pledged to continue monitoring the situation.
