The Kaduna State Government has launched a full investigation into a CNG bus explosion at Mando Motor Park in Igabi LGA, assuring residents that the incident posed no security threat.
The blast occurred early Sunday on a Silver Luxury Travel bus at the Lagos Garage Terminus. Eyewitnesses reported the explosion happened without warning, severely damaging the bus and scattering debris across the busy transport hub, drawing the attention of commuters and nearby residents.
Emergency responders, including security operatives, secured the area promptly, and normal activities resumed shortly after. Thankfully, no casualties or property losses were recorded.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, preliminary findings suggest the explosion was caused by a technical fault from overfilling the CNG tank, dismissing fears of a bomb blast.
Governor Uba Sani has directed a multi-agency investigation involving security, technical, and safety authorities to determine both immediate and underlying causes, with the goal of strengthening operational standards for CNG use in the state.
The government praised the Kaduna State Police Command, especially its Bomb Disposal Unit, for its swift response, and urged residents to stay calm, rely on verified information, and continue their activities.
Concerns have been raised nationwide about the safety of CNG-powered vehicles, including maintenance, fuel system integrity, and compliance with safety regulations. Authorities emphasize that the investigation will focus on enhancing safety protocols and preventing future incidents.
