The UK government has banned US rapper Kanye West—now known as Ye—from entering the country due to his past antisemitic remarks, forcing the cancellation of the Wireless Festival in London, where he was set to headline in July.
West applied to travel on Monday, but authorities deemed his presence “not conducive to the public good”. Festival organisers announced all tickets would receive automatic full refunds.
The decision follows widespread controversy, with major sponsors like Pepsi and Diageo withdrawing support. Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the booking “deeply concerning” and affirmed the UK’s commitment to combat antisemitism.
West has faced criticism for his antisemitic comments and admiration for Adolf Hitler, including releasing a banned song titled “Heil Hitler” in May 2025. He has since expressed regret, citing his bipolar disorder, and offered to meet members of the UK Jewish community.
While some welcome the ban as a protective measure, critics like Nigel Farage warn it risks suppressing free speech, calling the ban a “dangerous path.”
