Lecturers at the University of Jos have ended their strike and returned to academic duties after receiving their March 2026 salaries.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIJOS branch, confirmed this in a statement on Friday signed by its chairman, Prof. Jurbe Molwus.
The lecturers had stopped work on April 8, 2026, due to delays in salary payments and the exclusion of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA).
According to the union, the university got approval from the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation to pay the salaries shortly after the strike began. The union said it has now verified that most lecturers have received their March pay.
However, ASUU noted that the Earned Academic Allowances were still not included and urged the Federal Government to release the necessary funds to fully implement the 2025 agreement with the union.
Lecturers have now been directed to resume teaching, conduct exams, and attend official meetings while efforts continue to ensure the payment of the outstanding allowances.
The union also warned that if urgent steps are not taken, another strike could happen soon.
