Vice President Kashim Shettima travelled to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, on Saturday to express sympathy to the Nigerian Army and the state government following a recent attack on military personnel in Benisheikh.
The incident claimed the lives of several senior officers and soldiers.
Upon arrival, Shettima was received by the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, along with other top government officials in the state.
He conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences, noting that the nation shares in the grief of the bereaved families.
“On behalf of the President, I extend our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces and allied forces over the lives lost. We mourn with the families and honour the ultimate sacrifice made by our brave personnel,” he said.
He added that, despite the tragedy, there is hope for better days ahead, stating that difficult times will eventually pass.
Shettima also reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the armed forces, the affected families, and communities in Borno and other regions facing security challenges.
