The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert warning residents across the country to expect thunderstorms, rainfall, and strong winds on Monday, April 13.
In its forecast released on Sunday, NiMet stated that northern states will begin the day with sunny conditions, but isolated thunderstorms are expected later in areas such as Adamawa and Taraba. It also noted that hot and sunny weather will dominate the morning before giving way to localised rain, lightning, and gusty winds in the afternoon and evening.
For the central region, including Niger, Kwara, Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau, and the FCT, the agency predicted cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine in the morning, followed by thunderstorms later in the day.
In the southern states, NiMet forecast cloudy conditions with scattered thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, warning that storm activity could intensify and disrupt daily activities.
The agency also cautioned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and advised residents to secure loose items, avoid flood-prone areas, and take safety precautions during storms due to possible lightning strikes. Airline operators were also urged to obtain updated airport-specific weather information before flights.
