Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has called for an urgent investigation into the Nigerian Air Force airstrike reportedly linked to civilian casualties at Jilli village along the Borno–Yobe border.
In a Facebook post, Gumi questioned the circumstances surrounding the operation, demanding accountability over who authorised the strike that allegedly hit civilians during a weekly market gathering.
He referenced previous incidents, including the Tudun Biri bombing and other reported strikes in parts of Nasarawa and Sokoto, describing them as part of a troubling pattern of military operations affecting non-combatants.
Gumi argued that counterterrorism efforts must not endanger innocent lives, warning that such incidents could undermine public trust and fuel further tension in affected communities. He also urged the Senate to open formal hearings into repeated “mistaken” strikes on civilian areas.
He concluded by insisting that Nigerians deserve answers rather than condolences, calling for transparency and accountability in military operations.
