Rising Australian sprint sensation Gout Gout has delivered a historic performance, surpassing a long-standing early-career benchmark set by sprint legend Usain Bolt.
Competing at the Australian Athletics Championships on April 12, the 18-year-old clocked an incredible 19.67 seconds in the 200 metres to claim the title, making him one of the fastest athletes globally this season.
The time eclipses Bolt’s best mark of 19.93 seconds recorded before the age of 23, placing Gout ahead in early-career comparisons with the Olympic icon.
The performance also marks a major milestone for Gout, as it is his first officially recognized sub-20-second run under legal wind conditions. His previous attempt below 20 seconds was wind-assisted and therefore not recorded as official.
Sunday’s run represents a significant leap from his earlier personal best of 20.02 seconds, highlighting his rapid development and growing presence on the global sprinting stage.
In the race, Aidan Murphy finished second in 19.88 seconds, while Calab Law came third in 20.21. However, Gout dominated the final stretch, pulling away decisively after the bend to seal a remarkable victory.
