A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reportedly backed by Nyesom Wike has begun renovation and reopening of the party’s national secretariat in Abuja ahead of a planned resumption.
The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the party, with concerns that the rival Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) may face challenges returning to the secretariat.
The factional National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, announced over the weekend that both the PDP national secretariat and its presidential campaign office, Legacy House in Maitama, had been unsealed in compliance with court orders.
In a statement issued by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the group said control of the property had been handed over to its leadership, with Samuel Anyanwu serving as National Secretary.
The faction also commended the police for maintaining professionalism and warned against any attempts to disrupt activities at the secretariat.
However, the rival Turaki-led faction has condemned the move, describing it as a violation of due process. Its spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, argued that the court judgment cited for the takeover is currently under appeal, and that all parties were aware of the ongoing legal process.
He warned that the action could undermine the authority of the appellate court and further complicate the party’s internal crisis.
