Senate President Godswill Akpabio says rising insecurity in Nigeria is being influenced by political actors as the 2027 general elections draw nearer.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Nigeria Revenue Service headquarters in Abuja, he alleged that some individuals are sponsoring unrest to distract the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
He also suggested that such incidents tend to reduce after elections, claiming they are often politically motivated.
Akpabio further defended the ruling party’s political strength, asserting that most state governors are aligned with the APC, while dismissing opposition claims of a move toward a one-party state.
The comments come amid growing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections and renewed debate over security challenges in the country.
