Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged Nigerians to remain patient with ongoing economic reforms, saying recent changes in the petroleum sector are beginning to yield results.
According to him, the country has moved away from a period of severe fuel scarcity, when long queues stretched for kilometres and petrol was largely unavailable.
“There was a time Nigerians were willing to pay as much as ₦10,000 per litre, yet the product was not available,” he said.
Akpabio noted that improved fuel availability across the country reflects the impact of policies under President Bola Tinubu, particularly efforts to liberalise the downstream sector and encourage private sector participation.
He added that increased local refining capacity has reduced reliance on imports, with Nigeria now producing and even exporting petroleum products.
While acknowledging ongoing concerns over high fuel prices and cost of living, the Senate President maintained that the reforms are necessary for long-term economic stability.
