The Federal Government has commenced payment of outstanding salary arrears owed to resident doctors following the review of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), according to the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors.
The association confirmed that affected doctors are now receiving payments covering between one and six months of arrears across various medical centres, with several beneficiaries already receiving alerts.
In a notice signed by its Publicity and Social Secretary, Dr. Abdulmajid Ibrahim, the association said the disbursement process for the 25/35 CONMESS review arrears has officially begun, while urging members to remain patient as payments continue.
It noted that while most arrears are being processed smoothly, a portion linked to August may experience slight administrative delays.
The CONMESS structure, which governs salaries of medical and dental professionals in Nigeria’s public health sector, has long been a subject of dispute due to recurring delays in implementation.
Resident doctors have consistently raised concerns over welfare conditions, unpaid entitlements, and the growing migration of medical professionals abroad.
