Atletico Madrid have reached the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after surviving a late comeback from FC Barcelona, progressing 3-2 on aggregate despite a 2-1 second-leg defeat.
Barcelona raced into an early lead through Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres, levelling the tie on aggregate, but a crucial goal from Ademola Lookman restored Atletico’s advantage.
The match turned in the closing stages when Barca defender Eric Garcia was sent off, dealing a major blow to their hopes of forcing extra time.
Led by coach Diego Simeone, Atletico return to the semi-finals for the first time since 2017 and will face either Arsenal or Sporting Lisbon.
