The World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office in Nigeria has hosted its inaugural Health Diplomacy Dialogue with Ambassadors and Heads of Mission in Abuja, marking a significant step in strengthening collaboration between health and diplomacy.
The dialogue comes at a time when global health challenges are increasingly influenced by geopolitical dynamics, creating a platform for strategic engagement, shared understanding, and coordinated action.
Discussions highlighted Nigeria’s health journey, including progress in advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC), strengthening primary healthcare systems, addressing the dual burden of diseases, and enhancing health security and preparedness.
The engagement also sets the stage for key global events, including the 79th World Health Assembly and Nigeria’s hosting of the 5th High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Abuja.
