Trump Says He Would Not Use Nuclear Weapons Against Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he would not consider deploying nuclear weapons against Iran, despite earlier rhetoric suggesting severe military action.

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump dismissed the idea, saying there would be no need to use nuclear arms when conventional military operations had already caused significant damage. He also emphasized that nuclear weapons should never be used by any country.

His comments follow earlier statements on April 7 in which he warned of devastating consequences for Iran, remarks that drew widespread concern. Shortly after those comments, however, he agreed to a ceasefire in the conflict involving the United States and Israel, which has since been extended.

During the crisis, Vice President JD Vance indicated that the U.S. was prepared to escalate its response, though the White House later clarified that this did not include nuclear threats.

Trump reiterated that his objective is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, citing concerns about potential threats to U.S. cities and stability in the Middle East. Iran has consistently denied pursuing nuclear weapons, while international monitors have said there was no immediate evidence of an imminent nuclear capability before the conflict.

The U.S. remains the only country to have used nuclear weapons in warfare, while Israel is widely believed to possess such weapons, though it has not officially confirmed this.
