The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), FCT Wing, has called off its ongoing strike following fresh commitments by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to address their demands.
The decision was announced after an emergency State Wing Executive Council (SWEC) meeting held on Sunday at the FCT Teachers’ House, Gwagwalada.
The strike, which began on April 20, was over unpaid entitlements, implementation of a ministerial committee report, and promotion-related issues affecting teachers in the FCT.
According to the union, the minister approved a monthly ₦5 billion intervention package—₦2 billion from the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and ₦3 billion from Area Councils’ allocations—to settle outstanding allowances, including the 40% peculiar allowance.
The union also noted assurances from the minister regarding the resolution of promotion issues in collaboration with the FCT Civil Service Commission.
Following the agreement, teachers have been directed to resume duties from Monday, April 27, 2026, with a warning that the strike could be revisited if commitments are not honoured.
The union also stressed that no teacher should be penalised for participating in the industrial action and praised members for their unity during the strike period.
