The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intensified its fight against drug trafficking, intercepting large consignments of illicit substances—including the highly potent stimulant Captagon—in a coordinated nationwide crackdown.
In Kwara State, operatives seized 10,000 pills of Captagon along Bode Saadu road during a routine patrol, leading to the arrest of a suspect. The development marks a significant interception of the drug nearly five years after its first discovery at the Apapa seaport in Lagos. Captagon has gained notoriety for its links to extremist groups and its effects in suppressing fear and fatigue.
In a separate operation in Oyo State, NDLEA officers intercepted a commercial bus and apprehended a 33-year-old businessman who had ingested cocaine in a bid to evade detection. The suspect later excreted 45 wraps of the drug, weighing over one kilogram.
The agency also recorded major seizures across other states, including over 1.1 million opioid pills recovered in Edo State, alongside significant quantities of cannabis intercepted in Lagos, Ekiti, and Bauchi states.
NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), commended the efforts of operatives, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks and curbing the spread of illicit substances nationwide.
