A major security scare interrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner after an armed suspect was intercepted at the venue, triggering a rapid response from law enforcement.
According to DC Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll, the suspect was heavily armed, carrying multiple weapons at the time of the incident. Authorities identified the individual as 31-year-old teacher Cole Allen from Torrance, California, who is believed to have been a guest at the Hilton hotel hosting the high-profile event.
Witnesses reported that the suspect emerged from a makeshift room near the venue’s entrance, an area allegedly lacking adequate security and used for storage. One attendee told the New York Post that the suspect retrieved a weapon from a bag inside the room, describing it as unusually long and unlike a typical firearm.
The incident caused panic among attendees, with security swiftly intervening to contain the situation and ensure the safety of guests. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the suspect gained access to the area and bypassed security measures.
