Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, on Monday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, as part of ongoing political consultations on the future of Nigeria.
Obi was accompanied by a delegation of South-East political stakeholders, including serving and former lawmakers, as well as former Imo State Governor, Achike Udenwa.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the former Anambra State governor said the engagement focused on national issues and preparations toward the 2027 elections, describing it as part of broader consultations with key political figures across the country.
According to him, the visit was aimed at discussing the state of the nation and exploring ways to strengthen unity and democratic governance ahead of the next election cycle.
He noted that engagements of this nature are necessary in building consensus among leaders and addressing pressing national challenges.
The meeting comes amid a series of similar consultations by Obi with political actors across different regions, as he continues discussions ahead of the ADC presidential primary.
Just last week, Obi met with stakeholders in Bauchi State alongside South-East leaders, where he also held discussions with Governor Bala Mohammed behind closed doors.
Following that engagement, Obi emphasized the need for national unity and collective responsibility in addressing Nigeria’s challenges, stressing that the country must be redirected toward a more stable and inclusive future.
He reiterated that his consultations are aimed at fostering cooperation across regional and political divides in order to build what he described as a “new Nigeria” that works for all citizens.
