Sadio Camara has been killed following a suspected suicide truck bombing on his residence near Bamako, in what appears to be part of a wider wave of coordinated attacks across the country.
According to official reports, the attack occurred in Kati, a key military base area, where a vehicle loaded with explosives rammed into the minister’s residence. Government sources say Camara engaged the attackers in a gunfight before sustaining injuries that later proved fatal.
The assault also reportedly claimed the lives of several family members and caused significant destruction, including damage to a nearby mosque where worshippers were present.
The incident comes amid escalating violence involving jihadist groups linked to al-Qaeda and separatist fighters, including the Azawad Liberation Front. Multiple regions—including Gao, Kidal, Mopti, and Sevare—have witnessed simultaneous attacks, described by analysts as one of the most coordinated offensives in recent years.
Meanwhile, Mali’s transitional leader, Assimi Goita, was reportedly moved to safety after his residence was also targeted.
The renewed violence highlights the deepening security crisis in Mali, where insurgencies and separatist movements continue to challenge government control despite ongoing military efforts and foreign support.
