Dangote Refinery has set its ex-depot price for aviation fuel at ₦1,820 per litre in a bid to improve pricing transparency across the sector.
The move comes as airline operators continue to express concern over soaring jet fuel costs and the strain on the aviation industry.
Despite advisory pricing from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), marketers are still selling aviation fuel at ₦2,230 per litre or higher, well above recommended levels.
The regulator had earlier suggested a price range of ₦1,760 to ₦1,988 per litre in Lagos and around ₦2,037 per litre in Abuja, following consultations with key industry stakeholders.
However, checks indicate that actual market prices remain elevated, with airlines bearing significantly higher costs than the benchmark.
Industry stakeholders have called for greater transparency. Experts argue that publishing daily gantry prices could reduce excessive margins by intermediaries and help stabilise the market.
Airline representatives also note that pricing remains largely unregulated, allowing marketers to set rates independently. They warn that rising fuel costs have sharply increased operating expenses, placing further pressure on airlines across Nigeria.
