Dangote Refinery has commenced direct jet fuel supply to Ethiopian Airlines, marking a major step in its expansion into international aviation fuel markets.
The refinery’s Managing Director, David Bird, disclosed that the facility is now exporting aviation fuel, diesel, and petrol after achieving sufficient production to meet Nigeria’s local demand.
Speaking at an energy conference in Lagos, Bird noted that the company has already supplied refined products to 11 African countries since the escalation of tensions in the Middle East disrupted global fuel supply chains.
He emphasized that while the refinery is growing its global presence, its primary focus remains on serving African markets, adding that more surplus production will continue to be exported across the continent.
Operating at full capacity following maintenance, the refinery is well-positioned to meet rising global demand for jet fuel, especially as supply shortages persist in several regions.
Despite increasing global oil prices, Bird stressed that availability remains a bigger concern than cost, particularly for countries reliant on imports.
Backed by investments from Aliko Dangote, the refinery has significantly boosted Nigeria’s refining capacity, helping stabilize domestic fuel supply while positioning the country as a key exporter in the global energy market.
With strong profit margins on jet fuel and growing demand from Europe and beyond, the Dangote Refinery is emerging as a major player in shaping fuel supply across Africa and international markets.
