ABUJA — The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has announced plans to establish a campus of the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC) in Ogun State as part of ongoing reforms in police training and education.
He also disclosed a broader initiative aimed at upgrading and securing accreditation for 42 police colleges across the country to enhance training standards and institutional capacity.
The announcement was made on Monday during a high-level strategic meeting held at the Federal Ministry of Education, hosted by the Minister of Education, Maruf Alausa, and the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the proposed reforms represent a significant step toward modernising police education and strengthening professional development within the Nigeria Police Force.
The meeting, which also had in attendance former IGP Kayode Egbetokun (retd.) and other key stakeholders, underscored the national importance of the proposed reforms.
Key discussions focused on infrastructure development, collaboration with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and coordination with the National Universities Commission (NUC) to ensure facilities meet accreditation requirements.
Stakeholders reportedly agreed on a timeline for making the Ogun State POLAC campus operational by the 2026 academic session.
IGP Disu reaffirmed the Police Force’s commitment to building a modern and professional institution, stressing that reforms in training are critical to improving operational effectiveness and tackling evolving security challenges.
He added that combining academic training with tactical policing skills would help produce officers with higher standards of discipline, integrity, and professionalism.
The Nigeria Police Force said the initiative forms part of broader efforts to reposition its training institutions for improved efficiency and global best practices.
