ABUJA — Senate President Godswill Akpabio has announced a fresh wave of defections in the National Assembly, signaling deepening political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South, has moved to the Labour Party just weeks after previously defecting to the African Democratic Congress.
In a related development, Senator Victor Umeh formally defected from the ADC to the National Democratic Congress, while Deputy Minority Whip, Rufai Hanga, also joined the NDC from the New Nigeria Peoples Party.
Meanwhile, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas announced additional defections in the lower chamber, with several lawmakers moving from the ADC to the NDC.
Among those who defected are Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike.
Others include Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.
Additionally, Leke Abejide, representing Yagba Federal Constituency, defected from the ADC to the All Progressives Congress.
The latest developments highlight intensifying political shifts and strategic repositioning among lawmakers as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
