ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory High Court has ordered the Incorporated Trustees of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project to pay ₦100 million in damages to two operatives of the Department of State Services over a defamation suit.
Delivering judgment, Halilu Yusuf held that the DSS officials — Sarah John and Gabriel Ogundele — were justified in filing the suit against SERAP.
The claimants accused SERAP of falsely alleging that DSS operatives invaded its Abuja office on September 9, 2024.
In addition to the damages, the court ordered SERAP to issue a public apology to the officials, to be published in two national newspapers and aired on two television stations.
The court also awarded ₦1 million as the cost of litigation and directed that the damages would attract a 10 per cent annual interest until fully paid.
