Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress and joined the African Democratic Congress.
The lawmaker announced his defection on Thursday via his official X account, revealing that the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, had formally read his resignation letter during plenary.
According to Bello El-Rufai, he will now seek re-election to represent Kaduna North Federal Constituency under the ADC platform.
He disclosed that two other lawmakers — Suleiman Richifa and Umar Ajilo — also joined the ADC alongside him as part of what he described as a movement toward “progressive, people-focused service.”
The lawmaker stated that his decision to leave the APC was driven by “courage and conviction,” adding that his priority remains quality representation and grassroots development for his constituents.
Bello El-Rufai also reaffirmed plans to roll out a Primary Health Care initiative aimed at equipping healthcare centres with medical supplies, beginning with facilities in Unguwar Sarki Ward and Badarawa/Malali Ward.
The defection adds to the growing wave of political realignments and opposition coalition-building ahead of the 2027 general elections.
