Suspected gunmen have reportedly killed at least 13 people in a renewed attack on the Ngbra Zongo community in Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Friday, caused panic across the community, with several residents sustaining injuries while others fled into nearby bushes for safety.
A resident, Philip Alanga, said the attackers stormed the community around midnight, shooting indiscriminately before assaulting residents with machetes and other dangerous weapons.
According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants moved from house to house, leaving behind destruction and multiple casualties.
Confirming the incident, Danjuma Auta described the attack as tragic and barbaric, while calling on security agencies to strengthen surveillance and improve protection for vulnerable communities in Plateau State.
The latest violence comes days after another deadly attack in the Nding Susut community of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, where five persons were reportedly killed and three others injured after gunmen opened fire on residents gathered outside their homes.
Community leaders and residents have continued to express concern over the recurring attacks, warning that fear and insecurity are spreading across affected communities.
