French President Macron calls for greater investment to boost Africa’s economic independence

French President Emmanuel Macron has called for increased investment in Africa, saying the continent needs stronger economic opportunities to achieve greater independence and self-reliance.

Speaking at the University of Nairobi during an economic summit in Kenya, Macron stressed that Africa’s future should be driven by investment rather than dependence on foreign aid.

The French leader noted that past approaches, where European leaders dictated solutions to African nations, were no longer acceptable or effective. He said Africa now seeks partnerships built on economic growth, innovation, and shared prosperity.

Macron also urged African leaders to strengthen governance while calling for reforms in international finance to attract more private investment into the continent.

The summit forms part of France’s renewed efforts to rebuild and strengthen its relationship with African countries after years of strained ties with some former colonies.
