The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued 15 individuals, including foreign nationals, following the discovery of a suspected human trafficking syndicate allegedly posing as an online marketing company in Nasarawa State.
The operation, carried out in Keffi and Karu Local Government Areas on May 7, 2026, was reportedly based on credible intelligence linking the group to suspicious online recruitment and fraudulent activities. The raid was executed by officers from NAPTIP’s Investigation Department alongside the Intelligence and International Cooperation Unit.
According to the agency, the victims comprised four women and eleven men. Preliminary findings revealed that three of the male victims are Nigerians, while the remaining individuals are foreign nationals.
NAPTIP stated that the suspects allegedly used the cover of an online marketing business to recruit and harbour unsuspecting persons in conditions believed to be connected to human trafficking, cyber exploitation, and other organised criminal activities.
The agency described the incident as a major security and humanitarian concern, warning about the growing trend of deceptive online recruitment schemes targeting vulnerable individuals.
Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full scope of the trafficking network and apprehend other collaborators linked to the operation.
NAPTIP also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious recruitment activities or unusual movements within their communities to the appropriate authorities.
