The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has announced a new enforcement measure targeting the movement of illegal or inappropriate goods on public transport buses within Lagos State.
Under the new directive, passengers will no longer be allowed to transport restricted or improperly packaged goods on regulated public buses, with strict sanctions set to take effect from June 1.
The agency said the policy is aimed at improving safety, orderliness, and efficiency across the state’s public transport system, while reducing risks associated with the carriage of hazardous or obstructive items.
LAMATA warned that operators and passengers who violate the rule will face penalties in line with transport regulations once enforcement begins.
The agency added that the move is part of broader efforts to modernize Lagos public transportation and ensure safer commuting conditions for residents.
