Actor-turned-politician has withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Surulere 1 seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, citing alleged intimidation and exclusion of his supporters.
The lawmaker announced his withdrawal during the controversial primary process on Wednesday, accusing some party leaders in Surulere of creating an atmosphere of coercion against his camp.
In a video shared online, Elliot claimed many of his loyalists were prevented from participating in the election across different zones within the constituency.
“My people have not been allowed to participate, so I am officially announcing my withdrawal from this race,” he stated.
The development comes barely a day after Elliot publicly declared that he would not step down from the race, insisting that no party leader, including, asked him to withdraw for another aspirant.
Elliot, who has represented Surulere 1 since 2015 under the APC platform, was seeking a fourth consecutive term in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
His withdrawal adds to the growing controversies surrounding the APC primaries in parts of Lagos, with allegations of irregularities and internal disputes emerging from several constituencies.
