The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has dismantled a major transnational methamphetamine production syndicate allegedly operated by a Nigerian cartel in collaboration with Mexican nationals.
The operation led to the arrest of 10 suspects and the seizure of illicit drugs and precursor chemicals valued at over N480 billion.
Speaking in Abuja, NDLEA Chairman described the raid as the discovery of the largest clandestine methamphetamine laboratory ever uncovered in Nigeria.
The illegal laboratory, hidden inside the Abidagba forest in Ogun State’s Ijebu East LGA, was allegedly operated by the Anochili Innocent Drug Trafficking Organisation.
According to the agency, operatives arrested three Mexican nationals and several Nigerian collaborators during coordinated operations in Ogun and Lagos states.
Recovered items included over 2,419kg of methamphetamine and precursor chemicals, alongside operational vehicles linked to the cartel.
Marwa warned that drug cartels are increasingly bringing in foreign specialists to establish illegal drug factories in Nigeria and vowed that the agency would continue intensifying its crackdown on narcotics networks across the country.
The NDLEA also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, noting that the meth lab operated under the guise of a regular farm.
