The Nigerian Army has acquired additional TP-2 drones and upgraded its aviation assets to enhance combat operations against rising security threats across the country.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, disclosed this during the closing session of the 2026 COAS Conference, where senior military officials reviewed ongoing operations, intelligence, logistics, and reforms within the force.
According to the Army Chief, the newly acquired drones and reconfigured aviation systems are expected to improve surveillance, target acquisition, precision strikes, and casualty evacuation during operations.
He described the investment in modern combat technology as strategic and timely, noting that evolving security challenges require the military to remain proactive, innovative, and technologically advanced.
Shaibu also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to improving the welfare of personnel through better living conditions, healthcare, educational support, and timely payment of entitlements, stressing that troop welfare remains critical to operational effectiveness.
The Nigerian Army has steadily expanded its aerial combat capabilities in recent years, including the acquisition of tactical surveillance drones and Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 combat drones to strengthen counter-insurgency operations nationwide.
