FG begins payment of outstanding scholarships to Nigerian students abroad

The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of outstanding 2025 allowances to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme studying in partner countries.

According to a statement from the Federal Ministry of Education, the funds were released through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and have been remitted to Nigerian embassies and missions for immediate payment to eligible scholars.

The ministry explained that the latest disbursement represents 50 percent of the approved outstanding obligations for 2025, with efforts ongoing to settle the remaining balance.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, confirmed that the funds have already been credited to embassy accounts, adding that affected missions are expected to begin payment without delay. He also advised scholars to monitor their accounts as disbursement commences.

Although the BEA scholarship scheme has been discontinued, the government noted that it remains committed to meeting its financial obligations to existing beneficiaries and ensuring student welfare.

The Federal Government further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigerian scholars abroad and sustaining policies aimed at strengthening education, human capital development, and national growth under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
