President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for its landmark success in dismantling a Nigerian-Mexican drug trafficking syndicate and a multi-million-dollar illicit drug production network operating within the country.
The Chairman of the agency, Mohammed Buba Marwa, announced the breakthrough on Wednesday following weeks of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated operations carried out in collaboration with international partners.
According to the President, the operation — which led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local drug kingpins, and several collaborators, alongside the seizure of illicit substances and chemicals worth over $360 million — reflects the professionalism, courage, and commitment of NDLEA operatives in protecting society from the dangers of narcotics.
President Tinubu commended the resilience and dedication displayed by the agency, while urging operatives not to relent in the fight against drug trafficking and organised crime.
He noted that West Africa has increasingly become a major transit hub for cocaine, synthetic drugs, and unregulated pharmaceuticals destined for Europe and North America, warning that the growing narcotics trade poses serious security and social threats to the region.
The President also stressed that the fight against illicit drugs should not be left to the NDLEA alone, calling on Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities within their communities to security agencies.
Tinubu added that the successful operation sends a strong warning to criminal networks that Nigeria will not tolerate organised crime or activities that threaten public safety and national security.
