The Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 elections after securing 657,917 votes in the party’s primary election.
Announcing the results at the collation centre in Ikeja, the Returning Officer, retired General Jonathan Temlong, said Hamzat defeated his sole opponent, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, who recorded one vote.
According to the electoral report, a total of 657,974 delegates were accredited for the exercise, which was held across all 245 wards in Lagos State’s 20 local government areas.
The Returning Officer described the exercise as peaceful, transparent, and well-organised, adding that it reflected a “family affair” within the party.
Hamzat recorded overwhelming votes across the state, including major figures from local government areas such as Alimosho, Ikorodu, Kosofe, Ikeja, and Lagos Island.
Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission were also present to observe the process.
In his acceptance speech, Hamzat expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC leaders, and party members for their support and confidence.
He pledged to continue the developmental agenda of the current administration in Lagos State and promised inclusive governance if elected governor in 2027.
The APC leadership in Lagos described the exercise as a demonstration of unity and internal cohesion ahead of the general elections.
