Pep Guardiola to step down after glittering decade at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has announced he will leave Manchester City at the end of the current season, bringing an end to a remarkable decade in charge of the English champions.

The Spanish coach confirmed he will take charge of his final match on Sunday against Aston Villa, ending a period widely regarded as one of the most successful managerial reigns in modern football.

Guardiola led Manchester City to 20 trophies during his tenure, including six Premier League titles and the club’s first-ever UEFA Champions League triumph.

In a statement, he said the decision was deeply personal, adding: “Deep inside, I know it’s my time.”

He described his time at the club as unforgettable, praising the players, fans, and staff, and noting that while nothing lasts forever, the memories and relationships built at City would remain permanent.

Guardiola is expected to continue working within the City Football Group as a global ambassador after stepping down.

His departure comes after Manchester City narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Arsenal in a tightly contested season.

Reports suggest former Chelsea coach Enzo Maresca, who previously worked under Guardiola at City, is among the leading candidates to succeed him at the Etihad Stadium.
