ADC Faction Dissolves NWC, Names Dumebi Kachikwu Presidential Candidate at Abuja Convention

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) loyal to Dumebi Kachikwu on Sunday announced the dissolution of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and declared Kachikwu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The decision was made during a factional national convention and presidential primary held in Abuja, where delegates adopted Kachikwu as candidate through a voice vote.

The group further announced the immediate replacement of the existing NWC, unveiling a new leadership structure for the party.

The newly constituted executives include Kingsley Oggah as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Abdulkadir Bashir as National Chairman, Johnny Derek as National Secretary, Kennedy O. Odion as National Treasurer, Chief Amirigoye as National Financial Secretary, alongside appointments for National Publicity Secretary and National Legal Adviser, Dr. Chris Ugwu.

Speaking after receiving the party’s flag, Kachikwu said Nigeria is at a critical crossroads and requires decisive leadership to tackle insecurity, unemployment, economic hardship, and growing national divisions.

He expressed concern over worsening socio-economic conditions, noting that many Nigerians are leaving the country in search of better opportunities abroad.

According to him, the ADC must position itself as a credible alternative capable of restoring hope and confidence among citizens.

“The mass exodus of our middle class is indicative of those who have chosen not to be part of this hardship anymore,” he said.

He added that Nigeria belongs to all citizens and must not be dominated by a privileged few, stressing the need for inclusive governance.

Earlier, Kingsley Oggah, Chairman of ADC State Chairmen, described the convention as a defining moment for the party, noting its resilience despite internal challenges.

The newly elected National Chairman, Abdulkadir Bashir, called for unity within the party and urged members to uphold its constitution while avoiding actions that could deepen internal divisions.

He appealed to aggrieved members to return and strengthen the party ahead of future elections.

The faction emerged amid ongoing political realignments within the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
