Gunman Killed in Shootout Near White House, Bystander Injured

A gunman was shot dead by United States Secret Service agents after opening fire near the White House on Saturday evening, authorities confirmed.

According to officials, the incident occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. when the suspect reportedly pulled a weapon from his bag and began shooting near the White House security perimeter.

Secret Service agents returned fire, killing the assailant at the scene. A bystander was also struck during the exchange and rushed to a nearby hospital, though authorities have not disclosed the person’s condition.

President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time but was not harmed during the incident.

US media identified the suspect as 21-year-old Nasire Best from Maryland, reporting that he allegedly had a history of mental health concerns and previous interactions with security agencies.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as gunshots rang out near the presidential complex, prompting journalists and tourists in the area to seek cover while security operatives sealed off surrounding streets.

Following the incident, Trump praised the swift response of the Secret Service and law enforcement agencies, while political leaders renewed calls against political violence in the United States.
