President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recorded sweeping victories across several states, including Kaduna, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Kogi, Ogun, and Bayelsa, as the All Progressives Congress conducted its nationwide presidential direct primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ruling party said the exercise was held simultaneously across Nigeria’s 8,809 wards, with party members voting to choose the APC presidential candidate.
Tinubu overwhelmingly defeated fellow aspirant Stanley Osifo in the exercise, securing massive votes in multiple states while Osifo recorded little to no votes in most declared results.
In Rivers State, Tinubu polled 280,468 votes, with Obio/Akpor recording the highest tally. He also secured unanimous endorsement in Kaduna State during the affirmation exercise conducted across all 255 wards in the 23 local government areas.
In Akwa Ibom, Tinubu scored 389,197 votes, while in Kogi State he polled 197,370 votes. He also emerged victorious in Ogun State with 322,485 votes and secured over 277,000 votes in Bayelsa State.
Speaking after casting his vote in Ikoyi, Lagos, alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, the president said democracy thrives through active citizen participation, strong institutions, and grassroots political engagement.
Governors, lawmakers, party officials, and members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitored the exercise across the country.
