The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected Akinteye Babatunde Afeez of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology as its new national president following the conclusion of its 2026 national convention held at the Old Parade Ground, Abuja.
Akinteye, a former NANS Senate President, emerged after a keenly contested election involving five presidential candidates. He succeeds the outgoing president, Olushola Oladoja, who completed his tenure.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Akinteye expressed gratitude to delegates and pledged to build on the achievements of the outgoing leadership while promoting unity among Nigerian students.
He commended the peaceful conduct of the convention, noting that there were no incidents of violence or disputes throughout the process.
The Independent Convention Planning Committee (ICPC) confirmed that over 300 delegates participated in the election, including SUG presidents, Senate leaders, and student representatives from tertiary institutions across the country.
The presidential race featured candidates from OAUSTECH, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUTA, Olabisi Onabanjo University, and Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta.
