Students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) on Tuesday staged a protest over a prolonged power outage and water scarcity affecting hostels within the institution.
The students said the blackout, which has lasted for over a week, has disrupted academic activities and made living conditions difficult since the start of the academic session.
One of the protesters, Felix Bala, said students had repeatedly complained to the university authorities without any improvement in the situation.
According to him, the power outage also affected water supply in the hostels because pumping machines rely on electricity to function.
The protesting students demanded the immediate restoration of electricity and water supply, warning that demonstrations would continue until their concerns are addressed.
Efforts to reach university officials and student union leaders for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing the report.
